SS316 is the second most widely used steel after 304, which is mainly used in food industry and surgical equipment. Molybdenum is added to obtain a special corrosion resistant structure. As it has better chloride corrosion resistance than 304, it is also used as "marine steel". SS316 is usually used in nuclear fuel recovery devices. Grade 18/10 stainless steel generally conforms to this application grade. SS316 stainless steel has good plasticity, toughness, cold denaturation, welding process performance, good high temperature strength of 316, and poor high temperature performance of 316L, but its corrosion resistance is better than 316. Due to low carbon content and 2% - 3% molybdenum, it has improved the corrosion resistance to reducing salts, various inorganic acids, organic acids, alkalis, and salts, as well as high temperature strength.
